Northlands Animal Care Hospital is committed to providing “Caring Quality Service”.


Our staff will take the time to communicate with our clients so that they can fully share in the partnership of care of their special patient.


We have a high level of medical and surgical skills to enable rapid return to recovery for our sick patients.


Our nurses are all fully qualified and regularly attend continuing education seminars. Their expertise in the fields of nutrition, behaviour, preventative animal care, dental care and parasite control is freely available to all our clients!

Dr Keryn Borea and Bree

Owners


Keryn and Bree have proudly owned Northlands Animal Care Hospital together since 2021, bringing a shared passion for veterinary medicine, strong leadership, and a genuine love for their community to the clinic every day.


Keryn qualified with honours in Veterinary Medicine in 2004, She genuinely loves being at the clinic — something that clearly shows in the care, attention, and compassion she brings to every patient (along with as many cuddles as professionally acceptable.


For Bree, working with animals is truly in her blood. With both her father and grandfather being vets, she grew up around the clinic, often going to work with her dad to watch surgeries, sit in on consultations, and lend a helping hand wherever she could. Veterinary medicine has always been a natural path for her.


Together, Keryn and Bree foster a clinic environment where compassion, community, and professionalism are part of the everyday experience for their team, their clients, and the animals in their care.

Dr Keryn Borea, BVSc (Hons)

Veterinarian & Practice Owner


Keryn loves being a vet and enjoys the variety each day brings. She values the relationships she builds with clients and their pets while providing consistent, compassionate care. She does not shy away from complex medical workups, complicated surgeries, or even the occasional orthopaedic procedure — thriving on the challenge and the opportunity to make a real difference for her patients.

One of Keryn’s favourite parts of being a GP veterinarian is meeting you with your kitten or puppy and learning and educating you and your pets as you grow together. Then recognising and supporting you through the challenges of the golden years.


Keryn and the Northlands vet team pride themselves on a high standard of care and the strong relationships they build with clients, working together to ensure every pet receives the compassion and professionalism they deserve.


In her spare time, Keryn can be found backcountry fly fishing, hiking up a mountain or poolside supporting her two teenage children, who are competitive swimmers.

Dr Silvi Weiss, BVSc (Hons)

Veterinarian


Silvi grew up in Namibia but moved to South Africa to study veterinary science at the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort), where she graduated in 2004. She completed the Small Animal Veterinary Honours degree in 2007 while practicing as a small animal practitioner in Pretoria. She continued to work in small animal and mixed animal practice in South Africa until she packed up her husband, 2 dogs and 1 cat and moved to Christchurch in January 2017.


She has a real fondness for diagnostic imaging, practical medicine and staying up to date with the newest developments in the veterinary field.


The moments away from the practice she spends with her hubby (Vincent) and dog Sia, discovering this new country's sounds, sights and tastes.

Dr Martha Jolly, PhD, MVM,BVM&S, MRCVS

Veterinarian


Following graduation from Edinburgh University in Scotland, Martha spent five years in mixed animal practice in the United Kingdom. Moving to Aotearoa | New Zealand in 2002 she has concentrated on caring for precious pets full time. She gained a Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM) in 2015 and loves to work with complicated medical conditions like diabetes and kidney disease. “ The best thing about my job is getting to experience the human-pet bond every day! I love the stories and memories people share with their pets”
More recently she has completed a PhD in conservation ecology and now splits her time between biodiversity research at the university and working with the wonderful team at Northlands Animal Care Hospital.
Outside of work Martha mainly be found in the hills, hiking, running and camping with her rescue pup Skye, while earthquake puss Hopey rules the roost at home.

Bree

Senior Veterinary Nurse & Practice Owner


Working with animals is in Bree’s blood, with both her father and grandfather being veterinarians. From an early age, she spent time at the clinic alongside her dad, watching surgeries and consultations and helping out wherever she could.


Bree’s passion for adventure and travel led her to spend eight years overseas exploring Europe and Africa before settling for a time in the French Alps. Although she once planned to relocate to Canada, Covid19 had other ideas, and she now happily calls New Zealand home.


These days, Bree works mostly behind the scenes of the business, helping keep everything running smoothly and supporting Keryn, so she can thrive in her role as a veterinarian. When needed, Bree also steps back into the clinic to cover veterinary nursing shifts.


Outside of work, Bree and her partner are kept busy chasing after their two children, Phoenix and Rocky. As a family, they love getting away whenever they can — whether it’s relaxing at their bach near Akaroa or heading off on a new adventure. As long as the mountain bikes are packed or there are hikes to explore, they’re happy.

Kim

Senior Veterinary Nurse


Kim completed the National Certificate in Verterinary Nursing with Otago Polytechnic in 2015, she then joined our team in 2016. She is currently studying the New Zealand Diploma of Veterinary Nursing with Otago Polytechnic. As a country kid she has always surrounded by animals of all shapes and sizes, this continues today. Outside of work and study she is involved in her daughters school and sport activities, indoor football and camping.

CJ

Diploma Veterinary Nurse



Kia ora! My name is CJ and I started working at Northlands in 2019. After completing my Biology BSc in 2013 and my Certificate in Animal Management in 2016, I realised vet nursing was where I wanted to be. I completed my Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2018 and am absolutely loving it! In my spare time I scale mountains, delve into dark caves and fight dragons... all online of course. I am a big fan of puppers (above is my furry son Lazarus), but I love all animals both great and small.

Kimmy

Veterinary Nurse


My name is Kimmy and I have been working at Northlands since September 2013 after gaining my certificate in Veterinary Nursing.


I have returned to work after some maternity leave and now have two kids with my husband, Harper and Marcus, who certainly keep me on my toes! We also have a Burmese cat named Ella who is very happy to laze in the sun all day long and a young ginger tom named Nemo.


Being back at work has been an absolute joy and I love working with and helping all your amazing fur babies. Outside of work I love spending time with my family and going for bike rides on sunny days.

Kat

Veterinary Nurse


Kat has worked as a vet nurse for 8 years, but after a recent 18 month career change realised veterinary nursing was what she loved most and needed to do! She joined our team in October 2023 and has been loving it ever since. She loves all areas of vet nursing but is especially fond of getting her hands dirty with juicy cat bite abscesses.


In her spare time she rides horses, spends time with her family and her cat George, and is an avid fan of horror movies and true crime!

Chris

Diploma Veterinary Nurse


After leaving the UK over a decade ago a career change was in order. Completing my VNA in 2020 and Veterinary Nursing diploma in 2023 I've worked in a few clinics across Christchurch before joining Northlands in 2025. When I'm outside of the clinic I enjoy time exploring the country on the motorbike or should the weather defeat me I'll be gaming or learning guitar (slowly!). I have a love for anything sci-fi or fantasy especially anything to do with the Discworld.
